Move Your Pet to Spain Without the Panic

Right, so you are moving to Spain, the dog or cat is coming with you, and someone has just told you that your old EU pet passport is now a coaster. They are not wrong. Since 22 April 2026 the EU's Animal Health Law transition period ended, and UK-resident GB pet owners can no longer use those handy little blue passports to travel into Spain. Every trip now needs a fresh Animal Health Certificate, issued by an Official Veterinarian within 10 days of travel, only after a microchip and a rabies jab that is at least 21 days old. It is not the end of the world, it is just paperwork, but it does need planning at least 4 months out if your pet has never been vaccinated against rabies.
